This year, volleyball has been a great experience. We have played some great games, we have learned a lot from each other, but most importantly, we have had such fun.
The Year 10 girls’ volleyball team had a wonderful opportunity to participate in the South Island Secondary School Junior Volleyball Championship. This year it was held in Christchurch, and we were accompanied by Ms Vella and Miss Calnan. We spent the week playing volleyball against other South Island teams. Even though it was very intense, we learned a lot, and in doing so, we improved.
At the start of the year we had some experience from playing in 2012, but not a lot. Thanks to many practices and day tournaments, we improved not only from a technical point of view (such as improving our serves and spikes), but also in the way we play as a team.
Tournament wasn’t only about the games, but about getting to know each other. We shared a lot of laughs, we got some free time to go to the pool and into the city, and we saw some of the games from the other teams.
Our coaches, Miss Calnan and Mr Heptonstall have been a massive help in making our volleyball team what it is.
