Spirit of New Zealand

By Ina Schröer (Germany)Wednesday November 20, 2013

My name is Ina Schröer and I was one of the fifty teenagers, who had the great opportunity of spending ten awesome days on a sailing boat called the Spirit of New Zealand. The Spirit of Adventure Trust offered us a life-changing time, full of amazing experiences.

The legendary swim in the sea every morning at 6.30....very cold! We got woken up at 6.25am and then warmed up on deck for ten minutes. I really enjoyed the last swim.

We started in Wellington and sailed down to the Queen Charlotte Sound. On Trainee Day (the day  the trainees take command of the ship) we went back to Wellington, through Cook Strait!

The programme they had worked out for us was really fun. We climbed up the mast (28.7 m!! An incredible view!!!!!!), we went tramping ashore and had a fire at the beach. While the trainees had to paddle ashore, the crew took the motorboat.

All in all, it was an amazing time and I can only recommend it for everyone!
